Patella Femoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS)
Patella Femoral Pain syndrome is the most common knee disorder, accounting for 25% of all
knee diagnoses. It is often a common complaint following meniscus or ACL injury and is the
most common injury for runners.
There are multiple factors that contribute to PFPS. However, PFPS is commonly associated
with repetitive micro trauma, impaired hip muscle strength, and lower extremity flexibility.
Through proper examination a physical therapist can help to determine the contributing factors
causing your pain and difficulty from PFPS and help give you the tools needed to improve function and
decrease pain with activity.
Shoulder Mobilizations and improving range of motion
By applying the cup with massage cream and moving it across the muscle it can provide a neuro-physiological relaxation to the muscle and help improve the muscles usage during exercise and help with stretching.
It can be beneficial for smaller muscles in the rotator cuff that are too tender for a deep tissue massage.
It can also be helpful on the low back when the muscles have spasms or are too tender to massage.
We at South End PT can help determine if cupping is an appropriate modality for your rehabilitation and recovery!
